The primary fascination of the Chhinnamasta sanctuary is the headless god of Goddess Chhinnamasta wh?ch stands on the body of Kamdeo ?nd Rati in the lotus couch. ChhinnamastaDevi Temple is an old sanctuary of Maa Bhagwati Chinnamasta Devi. As per one of the holy books of Sanatan Dharm, Shri Markandeye Puran, in the wake of executing of every last one of Asuras and upon triumph in the huge war, Maa Bhagwati's 2 companion Jaya and Vijaya who had slaughtered the different Asuras and drank their blood, were still hunger for more blood. So Maa cut her own particular head and quenched the thirst of her sahyoginis with her own particular blood.
From that point Maa Bhagwati's this roop was called as Maa Chhinnamastika or Mata Chinnamasta "Chhinn" means "without" and "Masta" means "Head"
Therefore this sanctuary was announced as Maa Chhinnamastika Devi Dham or Mata Chinnamasta Temple.
