Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple 
is built on lands of 100's of acres with huge number of beautiful statues speaking volumes of the excellent sculptural skills of Tamilnadu having many halls, tanks and shrines. There are 21towers and inner rounds, the 4th being very popular and important. The main tower, Rajagopuram is the tallest in India. This is one of the biggest temples in India. The procession deity is Namperumal, Azhagia Manavalan, Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. There are 8 holy springs including Chandrapushkarani and Suryapushkarani.

The hymns, sung by great 12 Vaishnavite saints, celebrated as Nalayira Divya Prabandam (4000 verses in praise of Lord Vishnu) elaborately speak of the glory of the Lord.

The annual gold ornament cleaning festival is called Jyestabisheka (first of anointing) and is celebrated during the Tamil month of aani (June-July). Brahmotsavam (Prime festival) is held during the Tamil month of Panguni (March-April). The preliminaries like ankurapuranam, rakshabandanam, bherira thanam, dhrajarohanam and the sacrificial offerings in the yagasala are gone through as usual.

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is one of the three temples of the god Ranganata that are situated in the natural islands formed in the Kaveri river. It is the foremost of the eight self-manifested shrines (Swayam Vyakta Kshetras) of Lord Vishnu.

In the Vaishnava parlance the term "KOIL" signifies this temple only.

  • Do observe ancient custom and traditions while in Temple.
  • Do respect religious sentiments at Temple.
  • Do deposit your offerings in the hundi only.

  • Do not come to Temple for any purpose other than worshipping of God and Goddess.
  • Do not smoke at Temple.Do not consume alcoholic drinks at Temple.
  • Do not eat non-vegetarian food in the Kshetram.
  • Do not approach mediators for quick Darshanam. It may cause inconvenient to others.
  • Do not carry any weapon inside the temple.Do not wear any head guards like helmets, caps, turbans and hats inside the temple premises.
  • Do not perform Sastanga Pranama inside the Sanctum Sanctorum.Do not take much time while performing Sparsa Darshanam to God in Garbhagriha.
  • Do not buy spurious prasadams from street vendors.
  • Do not encourage beggars at Temple.
  • Do not spit or create nuisance in the premises of the temple.
