Thiruputkuzhi Sree Vijayaragava Perumal Temple is located around 10 KM west of Kanchipuram on Chennai - Bangalore Road, where Lord Vijaya Ragavan is Blessing on the Horse Vahanam, which is a unique and special feature of this divyadesam.

The temple relates to Jadayu Moksham in Ramayanam. Jadayu - An Eeagle, the King of Birds was the friend of the Emperor Dasaratha. When the Demon Ravanan abducted Sitadevi, he fought against him in which his both the wings were cut off and fell down here in Thiruputkuzhi. When Sreerama were in search of Sitadevi, he crossed this place and came to know what happened thro Jadayu.

Float festival in Thai month-January-February; Masi Brahmmotsavam in February-March; Aavani Pavithra Utsav in August-September, Purattasi Navarathri in September-October and Tirukarthikai in November-December are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Devotees can see a Separate Sannidhi for Jadayu just opposite to the Jadayu Theertham. Unlike in other temples, during festival days the ALMIGHTY first makes HIS visit to Jadayu Sannidhi and then only he starts his street procession. It is the palce whereYadavaprakasar, the Guru of Ramanujar who taught Adhvaitham to Sreeman Ramanujar lived and Ramanujar had his early studies.

Sri Vijaya Raghava Perumal temple here is one among the 108 Divya Desams and is dedicated to Lord Vijayaraghavaswamy (Moolavar). There is a separate temple for Thayar in the form of Margathavalli Thayar and a sannidhi for Sri Ramanuja as well.

Emperuman, Sriman Narayanan born to King Dasaratha as Sri Ramar, left all of his properties and went to the forest as told by his father. When they went to the forest, Seetha pirattiyaar asked for the deer, which was actually not the deer, but it was Maareeshan, sent by Ravana.

Then, Ravana came to Seetha piratti and took her along with him to Lanka, On the way to Lanka, Jadayu, the Eagle bird stopped him and fought with Ravana to release Seetha. But, in the end, Jadayu's wings were cut by Ravana and fell down on the earth.

When Rama along with Lakshmana came there in search of Seetha Piratti, they found Jadayu fell down in the Land. Jadayu told that Ravana has took away Seetha along with him and on finally telling this, he died. Since, Lord Ramar gave the Sthanam (level) to Jadayu as his father, he did all the final ceremony to it and stayed there for a while.

As sugessted by Jadayu, the Perumal here gives his seva in the form in which he did the final funeral to Jadayu. Jadayu belongs to Pul (a separate family of eagle ) family was burried in the pit (kuzhi) , this sthalam is called "Thiruppukkuzhi"

Lord Vijaya Raghava Perumal blesses the devotees with Jatayu on His lap. During all Perumal processions, due regard is offered to Jatayu also. As this is the place where Lord Rama performed the last rites for Jatayu the eagle who fought with Ravana to rescue Sita from him and sacrificed his life in the service of the Lord, as a mark of honour to him, the flag post and the Balipeeta are outside the temple.
