Suryanar temple is located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. The main deity of the temple is Lord Surayanar, the Lord Sun with his consorts with Goddess Ushadevi and Goddess Pratyusha Devi, the temple also houses the planetary deities. The shrine is one of the nine revered Navagraha temples in Tamil Nadu and is the only one of its kind to have separate shrines for all the planetary deities. Get nine Planet Blessings In One Place

This is the only temple in Tamilnadu which have separate shrines for all the nine planetary deities. Once Sage Kalava prayed to Lord Navagraha for get relief from leprosy. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Navagraha granted his wish. Lord Brahma was furious because nobody have the rights to change the destiny of a person and he cursed the nine planets to suffer from leprosy. All the nine planets performed severe penance to please Lord Shiva here to get rid of curse. Lord Shiva was apparently pleased with their penance and blessed the planets that they should do all good to those who pray them with full faith and devotion. Sage Kalava raised a temple at the same spot where the Lord Navagraha had performed their penance, as a mark of gratitude. Special Pujas to Lord Navagraha here reduces hurdles in marriage, give good education and career goals & removes the Pitru Dosha. RathaSaptami in the Tamil month of Thai, and the first Sundays in the months of Aavani (Leo) and Kartikai (Scorpio) and Vijaya Dasami are celebrated in this temple. Also Lord Sani and Jupiter (Lord Guru) transition days are celebrated with special pujas. Suryanar temple puja to get relief from heart problems and heart problems. Suryanar Temple is believed to have been built in the 11th century during the reign of Kulottunga Chola, the later additions and renovations were made during the Vijayanagar Empire. Constructed in the traditional Dravidian style of architecture, the structure of a five tiered gopuram, an elaborate gateway tower and impressive granite walls enclosing each shrine within the premises. As per the Legend says that the planetary deities were cursed by Lord Brahma to reside in the wild jungle,however, Lord Shiva made their abode a pilgrimage spot.
